How TES Can Help You to Make the Most of Your Child’s Online Special Education Services
Relax. This is a new adventure for everyone. Just like Murphy’s Law states, “Anything that can go wrong, will go wrong.” When things go awry, let them. We are here to help reduce the frustration and to turn these stressful times into teachable moments and communication opportunities.
When it starts to get CRAZY, and it will, take a breath, tend to your child (we are not going anywhere), and then look to your TES provider for suggestions. That is what we are here for. Don’t be afraid to ask for breaks…we’ll wait.
If your child gets distracted and leaves the session, allow your TES provider to help redirect the situation in order to get your child on task. It may mean scraping the lesson plan in order to following the child’s lead and regain focus. Our providers are trained to infuse academic goals into everyday activities.
Play, Socialization, and Fun are all important ingredients in learning. Even when it looks like your child is just goofing around with their teachers and therapists know that the activities we choose are intended to instruct. Feel free to join in on the fun and see how you, too, can infuse your child’s academic goals into meaningful life activities.
Flexibility is expected. Just like life itself, online learning requires that we go with the flow. If you don’t stress about it, neither will your child. There are a lot more distractions at home than in the small group or individual sessions that your child is used to attending at school. Minimizing distractions is important, but with the whole family home, it can be nearly impossible. We won’t let it bother us and we would hope you can also forgive us if our children or animals make impromptu appearances on camera. While we will do our best to minimize interruptions, many of our teachers and therapists are also working from home with their families nearby.
Thank you for allowing us to enter your home and to continue to work with your children on their academic goals. We look forward to a time when we can return to school, but in the meantime, we will make the most of this unique learning opportunity.
