Doing acts of kindness is one of the best activities you can do with your kids. It’s a great way to bond as a family, to have a lot of fun, and teaches kids about compassion and service. These types of activities are so popular that there’s even a National Random Acts of Kindness Day in the U.S. each February. Here are some suggestions for activities you can do to show kindness to friends, family and strangers.
1. Give away “Thank You” notes.
Surprising your family, friends, and even people at the store with “Thank You” notes will make them feel appreciated. Take this opportunity to show the people you care about that you are thinking about them. Include your kids in these Random Acts of Kindness by letting them color or create the design they want!

2.Family Kindness Jar.
Set aside some time as a family to create a simple “Random Acts of Kindness” jar. With this jar, you will not only make lasting memories but also do good in the community too.
Supplies needed:
- Jar
- pens
- print design (below)
Instructions:
The idea is simply to instill kindness in your home. It will also encourage family members to look outside of themselves to serve others.
For a family night, gather together and create a list of Random Acts of Kindness activities that you want to do together. (Use the print below for this activity) Have each family member write down what they would like to do (either individually or as a family) and add it to the kindness jar.
3.Donate Extra Clothes:
Fashion changes and our bodies do too, making it necessary to discard our old clothing for different reasons. Sorting through outgrown or unused clothes not only benefits people who do not have these things but it’s also environmentally friendly. Instead of tossing them away, find out if your local shelter is accepting donations. To make it fun, you can have an arts and crafts afternoon with your kids and create a “Donation Box” and encourage your friends, family, and coworkers to donating for people in need.
At TES headquarters we decided to create a Donation Box where we will collect clothing for the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles, CA.
4.Fun Mail :
It seems like now more than ever all you get in the mail are bills, ads, and flyers. Taking the time to send a handwritten card or gift to a friend or family member can definitely make their day!
While there are standard regulations for mail, you can send unique items from the post office. Use a printed label or a permanent marker to write the address and stick surprises in the mail. The price to ship them depend on size and weight.
Here’s a list of fun things to surprise your family and friends with:
- Message in a plastic bottle (Protect the bottle wrapping it with paper and put in inside a sealed box)

With the following 2 things just be mindful of where they’re going so they don’t melt on the way:
